I love the golden days of my childhood
In my memories very sweet!
When rain fell on the summer rapt earth
Creating music in its own silver strings
We danced like gypsies in the street;
Just like a legendary hero
Who launched his ships on the seas,
I floated my paper boats in the streams!
~*~
On the banks of our village brook
We played in the golden sands
With wooden swords we fought like heroes;
Some times we swam in the cool waters
In sweet abandon we danced like naked angels
While flashing our little weapons in the air..
How playful we were then!
~*~
How I shook the friendly boughs
Of the Jamun tree that stood in the corner
Of the Temple ground and when fruits fell
We jumped down in a hurry to taste them
As those fruits were the nature's delight;
On the pathways of the great millet fields
We ran like rabbits and collected
The sweet cucumber fruits as if they were
The fruits of heaven with nectarine taste!
~*~
When we had challenged a cuckoo
With our cooing in high pitched notes
The bird stopped to sing in the trees
We begged the bird to sing again;
When there was no watch man in the grove
We had stolen the sweet lovely mangoes!
I love the golden days of my childhood
In my memories very sweet!
